Trymedia Systems offers first single secure delivery solution for simultaneous protection of online and retail games

March 24, 2004. Game Developers Conference, San Jose, CA.

Eidos and Popcap Among Pilot Launch Customers
The game industry’s leading provider of digital distribution services, Trymedia Systems, announces the immediate availability of ActiveMARK™ version 5.2. The latest version of the ActiveMARK secure distribution suite features CD/DVD product activation, making ActiveMARK the first single technology solution for simultaneous protection of online and boxed PC games and software. PC game publishers that intend to use ActiveMARK for CD/DVD game activation in 2004 include Eidos and PopCap.

“By incorporating ActiveMARK for CD and downloadable game distribution, developers and publishers will save 3 important ways – time, money and end-user satisfaction,” commented Gabe Zichermann, Trymedia’s VP of Strategy and Communications.

With ActiveMARK CD activation, consumers can make secure back-up copies, play games on their laptop without a disc, and as with previous ActiveMARK versions, share game files with friends (games revert to trial mode when shared). Consumers will activate ActiveMARK-enabled CDs by registering products online or via phone. To the consumer, ActiveMARK is transparent, as it’s fast, easy and doesn’t require any special programs to run.

“To offer Eidos gamers the ability to make back-up copies and legally share games with friends is a real breakthrough,” said Simon Protheroe, Director of New Media and Online Technologies at Eidos. “This unified content protection process for titles distributed via both CD and online creates significant benefits for both Eidos and the consumer.”

Trymedia’s ActiveMARK technology, previously used only to secure downloadable games and software, has been proven in over 30 million downloads from top-tier publishers and independent developers alike. Today an impressive roster of publishers securely distribute more than 300 casual and core titles worldwide using ActiveMARK services. Publishers benefit in the form of additional sales opportunities when content is shared virally.
