Press Release
Trymedia Systems Increases European Presence, Expands
World’s Largest Downloadable Game Distribution Network
August 31, 2004. San Francisco, CA.
Austria’s Largest Portals Among Latest to Offer Consumers Legitimate Downloadable
Games
Trymedia Systems today announced that two of the largest portals in Austria, Krone and Aon.at,
part of Telekom Austria, have joined Trymedia’s International Distribution Network and will offer
try-before-you-buy downloadable games to their visitors.
The signing of Krone and
Aon.at further increase Trymedia’s
business-to-business distribution network for downloadable games, cementing its position
as the world’s largest. Trymedia’s 4,200 affiliates offer a variety of legitimate
downloadable games to consumers from a catalog of more than 650 PC titles.
“You don’t need to be a games-focused website to generate revenue from downloadable
games,” said Gabe Zichermann, Trymedia’s VP of Strategy and Communications. “As
clearly demonstrated by the strong growth of Trymedia’s distribution channel and its
revenues, we believe that all Internet destinations can benefit from adding an outsourced games
channel that delivers increased visitors, retention, stickiness and direct revenues.”
Krone and Aon.at join AOL UK, which is providing its members with instant access to hundreds
of major game titles online that can be purchased and downloaded from a co-branded site on
the AOL UK service. AOL UK is the first major U.K. ISP to deliver Trymedia’s complete
catalogue of downloads to users. Leading partners of Trymedia’s International Game Distribution
Network include Dutch telecommunications leader KPN, Ireland’s leading telecommunications
company Eircom, and Yahoo! Australia & NZ.
In June, Trymedia established an office in London and hired Emma Morris as Director of International
Business Relations. Morris heads the London office and serves as a liaison with Trymedia’s
European customers and Distribution Network affiliates.
Europe is poised to experience tremendous Internet penetration, fueling the growth of the
downloadable games market. Industry analysts forecast that sales of downloadable games in Europe
will surpass $270 million in 2009, approximately 35 percent of the size of the U.S. market.
ActiveMARK-enabled games from Trymedia’s catalogue are easy to backup, can be played
on multiple computers (such as desktop and laptop) and may be freely shared among friends.
Each time a game is copied or shared, it reverts to free trial mode, offering the next consumer
a try-before-you-buy opportunity. Games from Trymedia’s catalogue run the gamut from
Scrabble and Bejeweled Deluxe to Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Singles: Flirt up Your
Life. Trymedia actively distributes content throughout the world with language, currency and
territorial controls to ensure maximum consumer and publisher reach.
