Trymedia’s ActiveMARK 6 Delivers New Breakthroughs for Secure Game Distribution

March 9, 2005. San Francisco, CA. Game Developers Conference.

Innovative Security, Casual Game Optimization, Automatic Updates,
Global Distribution Management and Advertising Insertion Among New Features

Trymedia Systems, secure digital distribution services provider and operator of the world’s largest distribution network for downloadable games, today announced ActiveMARK® version 6, a major new release of its industry-leading technology and service solution for online and CD/DVD-ROM secure game distribution. The company is demonstrating its technology at the Game Developers Conference Expo booth #224, being held at San Francisco’s Moscone West Convention Center from March 9 to 11.

In response to the overwhelming success of Trymedia’s ActiveMARK as a platform for digital distribution, the company unveiled five key new features designed to further enhance the revenues of its developer, publisher and portal partners. The new features of ActiveMARK 6 include:

  • Automated Update/Patch Management ensures consumers playing ActiveMARK-enabled games are conveniently notified of updates/patches and provided with the option to automatically download and install the files seamlessly, reducing costly service requests and manual update procedures.

  • Advertising Insertion allows the inclusion of rich-media ads during a game’s trial period, delivering an entirely new revenue stream for downloadable games. Advertisers gain a positive brand experience with gamers by enabling them to play full versions of popular games for a trial period.

  • Content Distribution Management lets publishers control the worldwide geographic distribution rights for their content from a single, online management console. This also allows for the creation of territory and channel-specific distribution and pricing rules to prevent grey-market distribution.

  • Asymmetric Code Blending radically increases AAA game protection with a myriad of novel techniques that further improve on ActiveMARK’s industry-leading anti-piracy capabilities.

  • Casual Game Optimization reduces security overhead to preserve the small overall size of these mass-market games.

“Over the past six years, ActiveMARK has become synonymous with increased revenues, consumer satisfaction and breakthrough distribution capabilities for the games industry,” said Alex Torrubia, Co-Founder and CEO of Trymedia. “The release of ActiveMARK 6 continues our tradition of excellence and leadership.”

Each time an ActiveMARK-enabled game is copied, it automatically reverts to trial mode, allowing the subsequent user to play the game for a limited amount of time before purchase. ActiveMARK also allows consumers to securely share, back up and play games on multiple computers whether the content is delivered by CD/DVD-ROM or via download.
ActiveMARK is the most trusted, tested and proven technology for the secure digital distribution of games. Today, more than 100 publishers distribute a catalogue of 1,000 games through 300 global portal partners using the technology. International Data Corporation estimates that $1 billion worth of downloadable games will be sold annually in the U.S. by 2008.

Developers interested in using ActiveMARK version 6 are invited to join Trymedia’s beta program. For more information, please visit the Developer Zone or Trymedia’s GDC Expo booth #224.
